Roseville Event: AAUW 2019 Women of Distinction Dinner
Spy plane pilot featured as event key note speaker
The American Association of University Women proudly announces that Air Force Colonel Merryl Tengesdal, Ret., former pilot of the U-2S spy plane, highlights the Women of Distinction fundraising dinner on March 28, 2019 in Roseville as its keynote speaker.
The dinner, open to the public, is set for Roseville’s Falls Event Center at 5:30 pm and is the fourth annual fundraiser presented by the nonprofit American Association of University Women-Roseville South Placer branch (AAUW-RSP).
The 2018 honorees Dawn Clayton (General Manager of Thunder Valley Resort) and Susan Rohan (former Mayor of Roseville) are the honorary chairs for this event. “We’re excited to have one of the Air Force’s most highly skilled pilots as our speaker,” says Kate Tiongson, of the AAUW-RSP Event Committee. Colonel Tengesdal flew missions out of Beale Air Force Base, worked at North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) and will tell stories of her military days. “Colonel Tengesdal has broken barriers and been a role model for women and girls, as are our two honorees,” Tiongson concludes.
The 2019 Honorees— Kris Wyatt and Megan Seely— were selected “based on their accomplishments and on being a role model and advancing equity for women and girls, which is central to AAUW’s mission,” notes Event Chair Sanchia Spandow.
Women of Distinction event tickets ($90 each) include dinner and are available until March 15, call Linda at (916) 708-5463. The event also features a raffle with prizes including wine country getaways and golf packages.
The annual fundraiser helps send local middle school girls to Tech Trek (STEM summer camp), supports Sierra College Leadership, and benefits high school scholarships.
