"Teaching Art Inside" Exhibit Reception Friday:
The Gallery at 48 Natoma hosts a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 17 for the new exhibit featuring paintings and prints by former correctional art instructor James Carlson, and artwork by incarcerated artists from the Arts-in-Corrections program at the California State Prison, Sacramento (New Folsom Prison). For more than 30 years, Mr. Carlson taught visual arts and facilitated a fine arts program at both the state and federal prison systems. His resourcefulness in teaching high level art techniques with limited supplies, dwindling budgets, and difficult and often hazardous environments is nothing less than inspiring. The collection of high-caliber works by his students is testimony to the excellent instruction provided by Mr. Carlson. An exhibit of photographs from the annual Folsom Focus contest will also be on display in the Community Exhibition Gallery. The galleries are located in the 48 Natoma Senior and Art Center; regular hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with extended hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.Visit Event Website for More Info
