The 10 Spot: Rainy Day Activities

01/29/2018 10:40AM

The skies might be overcast, but that doesn’t mean your days have to be dull. Liven up your spirits with these activities that are guaranteed to leave you singing in the rain. In no particular order…

1) Dabble in the arts this rainy season and drop by Rocklin’s The Art Bistro for a session in acrylic or watercolor painting, mosaics, clay, mixed media/collage, glazing ceramics, pendant jewelry, 3-D drawing, and woodburning. You could also paint a “Japanese Spring” on February 17 at Pinot’s Palette in Rocklin. theartbistro.compinotspalette.com/rocklin

 2) Did someone say “spa day?” Visit the umpteen spas in the area to get your share of pampering this season. Serenity Spa | Soul Yoga’s Ayurvedic therapies (“herbal lepa” for deep healing; “nasya” for clearing the nasal passages) will help fight the winter germs and leave you well-cared-for. serenityspaonline.com

3) Play your way through the rain with board games from The Junction Games in Rocklin. Choose from exciting options like Codenames, Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, and more. They even have “Open Gaming” nights on Tuesdays beginning at 4 p.m. and every third Saturday at 3 p.m. junctiongames.com

4) Now is as good a time as any to catch a movie at Century Roseville 14 or Rocklin’s Studio Movie Grill. February releases include Fifty Shades Freed, Black Panther, Game Night, Peter Rabbit, and Samsoncinemark.com/northern-california/century-roseville-14-and-xdstudiomoviegrill.com/locations/california/rocklin

5) When it’s cold outside, you might want to warm up at Mike Shellito Indoor Pool’s 1,500-square-foot warm water pool with depths between 3.5-5 feet. They even have winter/spring classes, so you don’t have to wait for summer to throw on your swimsuit. 916-774-5958

6) Winters can be especially harsh to those in need. Visit Placer Food Bank’s website and find ways to help your less fortunate neighbors through donations or volunteer work. placerfoodbank.org/help-us-landing

7) While away the time at one of three Roseville Libraries or the Rocklin Library. Go through their new releases section and read the latest and greatest. If you’re too lazy to step out (we don’t blame you), download e-books and audiobooks from their websites. roseville.ca.us/libraryplacer.ca.gov/departments/library

8) Breathe life into the dreary cold with Plant Nite at The Monk’s Cellar on February 6. The “Crystal Heart Glass Globe” class will help you build a Valentine’s Day-themed terrarium; plants and materials included with purchase. plantnite.com/events/crystal-heart-glass-globe-at-the-monks-cellar-10015923

9) Escape the rain at Quandary Escape Rooms or Tales from the Cryptex in Roseville and Beat the Room in Rocklin. Challenge yourself through puzzles and clues, and beat the game while you beat the weather. quandaryescaperooms.comtalesfromthecryptex.com; beattheroom.com

10) If you’re cooped up at home, you might want to get a head start on spring cleaning. Reading Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up or Amanda Sullivan’s Organized Enough: The Anti-Perfectionist’s Guide to Getting—and Staying—Organized (both available at Barnes and Noble) will give you the inspiration you need. barnesandnoble.com
