Celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the Sacramento Region

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which means it’s a perfect time to understand the disease better, raise funds for the cause, and come together in solidarity with patients and survivors. Participate in any of the following events and show your support. In no particular order...
1 The Mikuni Charitable Foundation is selling stuffed teddy bears called “Mikuni Kuma,” to support breast cancer awareness, give comfort to survivors and remember lost loved ones. The teddy bears are available ($10) this month at all Mikuni restaurants and online. Proceeds will be donated to the Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation.
2 THE STUDIO Martial Arts and Fitness in Roseville is hosting a free breast cancer awareness event on October 14 from 10-11 a.m. Work out at their pink-themed cardio kickboxing class (come dressed in pink for a “Best Pink Outfit” prize) and receive educational materials about self-awareness, breast health basics, risk factors and risk reduction. 3 Folsom Curves/Jenny Craig is throwing a Party in Pink Zumbathon on October 21 from 9 a.m. till noon at Rolling Hills Christian Church in El Dorado Hills. A $20 donation supports efforts for a cure and includes a Zumba dance party, lots of vendors and raffle prizes. 916-984-5878
4 Stores in Downtown Placerville will be illuminated with pink lights all month for Pink in the Night—a symbol of the community’s united fight against breast cancer. Join Images of Hope on October 21 from 6-9 p.m. at Placerville Flowers on Main for activities to educate and recognize breast cancer awareness month.
5 Blue Line Arts and Placer Breast Cancer Foundation are organizing an Art Bra exhibit to bring awareness to the plight of breast cancer in Placer County. Join them for this special tribute art show and help raise funds for the two organizations from October 13-November 25.
6 Whitney Ranch Charitable Foundation invites you to their sixth annual Strokes 4 Hope Golf Tournament on October 6 at Lincoln Hills Golf Club. Tournament proceeds benefit Dr. Hope Rugo's breast cancer research and families in Placer County currently battling cancer. The day includes lunch, a putting contest and post-tournament party.
7 Folsom ObGyn is offering a free first treatment session of MonaLisa Touch—a non-hormonal procedure for vaginal pain and infections caused by breast cancer treatments—to all breast cancer survivors. 916-983-3500
8 Join the walk for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on October 22 from 7-8 a.m. in Downtown Sacramento, as you support friends and family who’ve battled the disease and walk together for a cure.
9 Proceeds from the 5K and one-mile run/walk, Run 4 Her Life Breast Cancer Race, on October 1 at the State Capitol, will benefit I Am My Sisters Keeper Foundation and their mission of supporting low-income patients in the community.
10 Sutter Cancer Centers in Roseville and Sacramento are displaying quilts to be auctioned off next month to benefit breast cancer treatments. Brighton Collectibles in Roseville is also partnering with Sutter Roseville Medical Center’s Comprehensive Cancer Clinic to donate $10 from each of their bracelets sold.
