Sometimes you just want a comfortable neighborhood place to hang out and get some good food and drinks.

If Historic Roseville is your destination, look no further than Bar 101. A laid-back interior with a pool table, 13 high-definition TVs and one huge screen displaying all types of entertainment (sports are the specialty), ensure the kids and adults will never bore, while a side of good old-fashioned rock and roll makes the place swing.

The menu is modern American fusion and features traditional bar fare, a bevy of burgers and sandwiches, street tacos and everything in between. Their daily specials, like the rest of the plates, include generous portions composed of fresh and tasty ingredients that will tempt just about anyone. The full bar hosts a variety of choices too, from traditional and house specialty mixed drinks to premium wines and an abundance of beers on tap.

Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad

My workday lunch date and I began with an ample plate of chicken wings. They arrived quickly, still sizzling, and covered in a mild, slightly tangy buffalo sauce (you can also get them spicy). My companion enjoyed a blackened chicken Caesar salad, which boasted a pile of crispy romaine lettuce, a plentiful heap of chicken, freshly shaved Parmesan and bleu cheese crumbles. The creamy and flavorful house-made Caesar dressing brought the greens together in salad harmony; he happily reported it was “just delicious.”

I opted for the daily special—a quarter-pound burger topped with a thick slab of Cheddar and served on a toasted brioche bun with their scratch-made special sauce, a ripe tomato slice, iceberg lettuce, red onion rings and pickles. The mound of hot shoestring French fries added to the delight of this all-American meal.

Usually we don’t opt for dessert—at lunch that is—but the pumpkin cheesecake, made in house with real whipped cream, was impossible to resist. The portion, again generous enough to share, was too good to leave a creamy or crusty morsel on the plate.
With excellent service (everything came out quickly and freshly prepared), I foresee many trips to Bar 101 in my future.
