Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

I believe that successful decorating comes from creating an artful mix of things people love. The Art of Interior Placement creates beauty, comfort, elegance and functionality using a client’s existing décor, and they get to enjoy the results that very evening. Some of the homeowner’s stress is removed by reinventing, renewing and rearranging what they already have, ensuring it’s always the client’s taste…with a designer’s touch. An assessment of my client’s lifestyle is made prior to the redesign with regard to what they don’t like about the space, how they want it to function, and their vision for the room. To effectively redesign, the contents of the room are removed to reveal the architecture of the space and natural focal points. Then, with a proven placement formula, the room is beautifully transformed, often with items found in other areas of the home. I believe interior redesign found me, because as a young child it was always very natural for me to be moving the furniture and rearranging accessories.

How are you involved with both the community and your customers?

I volunteer at Habitat for Humanity ReStore and enjoy pulling together donated furnishings and accessories in their showroom, so customers can envision them in their own homes. It’s a great place to purchase all sorts of treasures and it helps their mission to build homes for worthy individuals. It’s always exciting to reveal the “after” room when a redesign is complete. Some are speechless, some cry with joy, but they are amazed at how much more inviting their rooms are; most don’t even buy anything new.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

Beyond having a successful redesign business and redesigning homes on HGTV’s Decorating Cents, I’m proud to have taught more than 250 adult students how to develop a successful interior redesign and staging business, and see them thrive in the industry.
