Jack Duran may be a successful lawyer and the Placer County Supervisor for District 1, but he got his start loading and unloading boxes.

After high school he began working at UPS, working his way up from unloading boxes at 3 a.m. to becoming a driver. “I turned a summer job into 15-plus years at the company,” Duran recalls. While still working full-time, Duran went to night school, and the experience taught him the value of hard work. “It prepared me for a lot of things in life,” Duran explains.

After finishing his bachelor’s degree and graduating from law school, Duran took inspiration from many family members in the military by deciding to make a difference in his community. He served a term as president of the Roseville High School Board of Trustees and worked as a judge for the Placer County Peer Court, a program to help rehabilitate juvenile delinquents. Now, as County Supervisor, Duran is dedicated to meeting the needs of his constituents, but he has a personal stake in it as well. “I live here, and my kids are growing up here,” Duran says. “Our community defines who we are...it’s important to have an ownership stake in it.”
