Roger Linn had no idea that he was about to be named “Rotarian of the Year” at the Rotary Club’s annual Installation Dinner last June.

“I was shocked,” Linn recounts. “I’m not a person given to crying or anything, but the eyes were moist.” Linn has been a member of the Roseville chapter of the Rotary Club for over two decades. In his role as scouting liaison and organizer for joint work projects, he works with local Scouts troops to put on fundraisers and do general work projects in his community, such as planting trees and doing repairs on homes of the elderly.

Linn is no stranger to public service. He served for 32 years in the U.S. Navy, first as an enlisted man on board the U.S.S. Enterprise throughout the Vietnam War, and later as a naval lawyer and captain in the JAGC (Judge Advocate General’s Corps). Now retired from the Navy and working as a corporate business attorney, Linn continues to believe in the value of serving one’s community, and he encourages his three children to follow in his footsteps. “If I could have one legacy,” Linn says, “it would be having been a good father and (having) served my country. That would be fine by me.”
