Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

I’ve always been an artist – making a living on the potter’s wheel as a ceramicist and then as a goldsmith. I also paint using watercolors and play a variety of musical instruments; so even though I didn’t buy my first camera until I was 32, photography seemed a natural extension of my artistic abilities. I purchased my first camera because we were having a baby (who is now 29 years old) and I wanted baby pictures, but quickly became a professional photographer – doing portraits and then weddings for people that I knew.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?  

I was instrumental in launching our most active professional association for the wedding industry (AFWPI) and 15 years later, I’m still on the board of directors. In doing this, I can help make sure that the wedding industry is pointed in the direction of ethics and great customer service. I was also president of the local photographers association. My wife and I are active in the Interfaith Council – an association of ALL local religions – actively working for tolerance and cooperation of every faith. I also served for a full year on the Sacramento County Grand Jury and learned a lot about local and county government!

Why is your staff the best in the business?

We are dedicated to our customers because they are dedicated to us. It’s a wonderful relationship, and for the last 26 years we have provided quality photographic memories for over 4,000 couples!

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

Being a father and grandfather are two things that make me the happiest; of course, being a great husband goes along with that.

And finally, customer service is…?

Exchange in abundance: always give a bit more than the customer expects. This can be product, caring, time, money, staying open late for them, getting their photos ready early, etc.
