Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
Majesty started unconventionally. Twenty years ago, a local pastor asked me to teach a Sunday school class. I was completely awestruck because I had neither the qualifications, nor the experience. I immediately declined. Yet the request kept hovering in my mind and putting weight on my heart to the point where I prayed for a second chance. My prayer was answered – a couple months later, the same pastor called me with the same request! This time I couldn’t accept fast enough. Then came the challenge…how would I do that? I had no idea what kind of materials I would need for the job, so I visited a Christian bookstore. On my first visit, I didn’t receive a lot of help. I remember going to the same store – the largest and most prominent – two more times. However, the results were the same. Disappointed, I chuckled a prayer, “Lord, call me; let me be the one to help others like me.” Nothing short of a miracle, three months later the most unqualified person on Earth became one. Last summer, I learned that my good friend Judy had closed her stores in Grass Valley, Auburn and Rocklin. I asked if the area needed a Christian bookstore and Judy recommended Roseville. With her blessing, the second Majesty Bible and Gifts opened on November 9, 2010.
How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
I usually know my regular customers by name and consider them friends. As for community involvement, Majesty Bible received a national ministry award as a store making an impact on the community and was recognized for collecting and donating the most bibles to prisoners. The year that Majesty won the award, we donated over 800 bibles.
Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I often read devotionals. My favorite is Sparkling Gems from the Greek by Rick Renner.
And finally, customer service is…?
Customer service is the heart of the business. Period!
