Jamie Susslin knows a lot about guns. “I got my first BB gun when I was 6 and my first rifle when I was 10,” she says, reminiscing of a childhood spent hunting and fishing with her stepfather in rural Pennsylvania. Later, working as a Bay Area police officer, she became known for her marksmanship, out-shooting many of the men at the shooting range. Although she now works as a private investigator and successful real estate agent in Roseville, she continues to pursue her love of hunting and fishing, working alongside the Sacramento Safari Club to promote gun rights and safety, nature conservation and sustainable hunting and fishing practices.

This year, she signed on as host of The Ultimate Sportsman, the new hunting and fishing reality show on the Versus Channel, after the producer saw her speak at a national hunting convention. “He knew I had a passion for hunting and fishing; not just being a a spokesperson, but someone who actually did what the contestants are doing,” she explains. Although hunting and fishing are often perceived as male sports, Susslin is proud to break that stereotype. “People underestimate you,” she says, “but I’ve been lucky to do a lot of things that I truly love.”
