On a cool evening here in Folsom, my sister and I drove a short distance just up the hill to find one of the most welcoming saloons around.
As we entered the eatery, reminiscent of an old western saloon, we witnessed the full-size mechanical bull in action as one of the diners held on with all of her might. The bar patrons cheered as she finished up her last 30 seconds of fame.
We were seated promptly close to the kitchen, and I noticed the waitresses and bartenders all wearing western style cowboy boots. A fully stocked bar, horse tie-ups and a huge patio dining area all embraced us as we skimmed the premises. Our waiter informed us that the saloon had only been open for about six weeks prior to that point. Incredibly starving (like always), I quickly ordered the Colt 45 Tri Tip-Dip Sandwich. The thinly sliced, roasted Certified Angus Beef tri-tip on a toasted French roll with double braised au jus – served with crispy saloon fries – was beyond perfect! I am always hesitant when it comes to tri-tip, because for me, it has to be seasoned correctly in order to enjoy it…and in the Saloon’s case, the chef gets a standing ovation for this finely prepared entrée!
After laughing hysterically at a couple more brave bull riders, we finished our meal and were comfortably stuffed. El Dorado Saloon serves lunch and dinner seven days a week, and breakfast Saturdays and Sundays from 7 to 11:30 a.m. For those 18 and up, they offer live music on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
So if you’re looking for some finely prepared chow or a fun bull ride, grab those cowboy boots and head to the hills!
