Sabores Mexican Cuisine

Jet-lagged and famished, my husband and I headed to Sabores upon my return from a trip to the East Coast.
Although fatigued from my flight, I was pleasantly awakened by the whimsical colorful lanterns hanging from the ceiling, and the hand-painted accents of the chairs. It just so happened to be my birthday, and the décor was party-perfect!
Our friendly server Mauricio escorted us to our seats and quickly returned with chips and salsa. As a lover of all things spicy, the fiery salsa was just my style. I ordered a cup of the Meatball Soup and the Ensalada de Ceviche – raw tilapia marinated in lime juice, with onions, cilantro and avocado, on a bed of romaine lettuce and red cabbage – for my entrée. My husband chose the Fajitas de Carne – also known as steak fajitas.
The soup, a tomato-based spicy meatball soup had robust and authentic Mexican flavor accented with thick slices of squash and carrots. Our entrées arrived, the fajitas of course sizzling with the aroma of grilled steak and vegetables. My salad arrived on a large square platter accompanied with a side of Sabores’ own Mexican Creamy Cilantro Dressing. The crisp lettuce and fresh avocado definitely complemented the tart lime flavor of the fish. My husband equally enjoyed his fajitas and insisted on foregoing dessert... but I overruled and ordered the Fried Ice Cream. After all, it was my day! The decadent treat arrived quickly – a large fried ice cream ball in a tostada, topped with whipped cream, fresh strawberries and strawberry sauce. By the pace that we devoured dessert, you’d never know that we were stuffed just moments prior! My husband even made sure to scoop the remaining strawberry sauce off of the plate once we finished. The fried ice cream dessert was a better-than-birthday-cake conclusion to a meal filled with the spicy flavors of authentic Mexican dishes.
